SADNESS

Sadness by Susan Mehr

A river flows underneath mist and snow.
Trudging forward an endless inhumanity.
Snowflakes seek and welcome tomorrow.
Heart bleeds leaves the soul an aching insanity.
Dreams drown and hope dies swinging underneath a willow.

  1. Creepy contrast of the image and the last line: “… hope dies swinging underneath a willow.” The reader wonders, is it a child engaged in playtime, or someone who in desperation literally has reached the end of their rope?
